A Global Strategy for Treating Nasal and Sinus Disease

Most primary care physicians experience frustration in treating patients with chronic nasal and sinus problems. In many cases, they are able to briefly reduce inflammation or kill the bacterial infection. This provides temporary relief for the patient, but the condition still returns later. In addition to inflammation and infection, it is crucial to treat the third component of nasal and sinus disease – obstruction of breathing and outflow passages.

At CornerStone Ear, Nose & Throat, we can remove nasal and sinus obstruction and have found that the vast majority of chronic nasal and sinus conditions can be controlled long-term with a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that causes mild discomfort, requires no packing, has an extremely low complication rate (well under 1%), and recovery time of three to five days. Removing this obstruction facilitates topical medical therapy for inflammation, and thus resolves the underlying causes for bacterial infection.

The criteria we use to determine if a chronic nasal and sinus patient is cured are:

  • Sinus cavities can clean themselves and remain healthy
  • Inflammation is controlled medically
  • Sources of obstruction are removed

We also work very closely with our Allergist and Pulmonologist colleagues to optimize medical
management in difficult cases and provide advanced treatment for patients suffering from neoplasms, malignancy and erosive benign growths.
