Chronic and recurrent sinusitis are among the most common health problems in the United States. While medicines can often be effective in reducing chronic and recurring sinus symptoms, they often do not address the underlying cause of the problem. Before determining the best course of treatment for each patient, it is important to consider the factors that lead to sinus problems.
Obstruction
A patient’s stuffy nose and sinus blockage may not be a medical problem, but instead a structural problem such as a deviated septum or narrow nasal anatomy. Using our on-site imaging and endoscopy, we can determine if a physical obstruction is the cause of a patient’s sinus misery.
Inflammation
Inflammation of the sinuses can be a result of allergies but can also have non-allergy causes such as pollution or airborne irritants. Allergy testing at our office can help pinpoint allergens that are triggering sinus problems or help rule out allergies altogether.
Infection
Sinus infections are the reason most patients come to see us. However, infections are the result of obstruction and/or inflammation. To provide long-term relief from sinus infections, it is vital to determine and treat the root cause as well as the infection.
