Wingate University’s Department of Physician Assistant Studies has recognized Dr. William A. McClelland as a Clinical Associate Professor for the Harris Department of PA Studies. The physicians at Cornerstone, Ear, Nose & Throat, P.A. have always provided their time and expertise to help in the education of future clinicians in the Union County area. For many years resident physicians in the Atrium Health Union Family Practice Residency Program have rotated through the offices of Cornerstone Ear, Nose & Throat, P.A. to gain clinical insight and knowledge about otolaryngology and how to manage disorders and infections of the ears, nose, and throat. More recently, students of Wingate University in the PA (physician assistant) program were invited to do rotations with our audiologists and physicians. Dr. William A. McClelland initiated this outreach program.
We feel it is very important not only to care for Union and Mecklenburg County citizens but also to assist in the education and development of our future clinicians.
By rotating through a specialty practice, PA students gain an opportunity to assist in diagnosing and treating both routine and complex otolaryngology cases, which they otherwise might not see. They are also afforded an opportunity to translate their academic knowledge into diagnostic skills and good judgment in the clinical setting while being mentored by board-certified surgeons. We take great personal pride in helping in their education and in providing clinical pearls and advice.”
