Allergy Testing Followup

  • Avoid any excessive allergen exposures today — no mowing the lawn, going to an outdoor baseball/ soccer game, going on a picnic, etc.
  • If the area itches after your allergy test, you may place an ice pack or even a bag of frozen peas over the area. You may take an antihistamine (Claritin, Allegra, Zyrtec, Benadryl, etc.) today for the itching. You may also apply some cortisone cream to the site.
  • Do not scratch or rub the area.
  • Do not take a shower or use the hot tub for 4 hours after your test today.
  • Do not exercise or participate in any sports for 4 hours after your test today.
  • The wheals on your arms/back will slowly resolve over the next several days.
  • You should already have a follow-up appointment scheduled to review your results with your provider. If you do not, please schedule a follow-up prior to leaving the office today.
  • Notify our office immediately if you develop any swelling at the testing sites or if you develop any symptoms that are not normal for you.
  • If any of the wheals on your arms/back increase in size, please notify the office.
